I received a ticket in may of 2002 and made plans to go to court for it. However, the day I took off work was the day AFTER my court date (oops) and the ticket turned into a failure to appear. I had forgotten about the ticket and when I went in to renew my driver’s license (California) they told me I had the outstanding ticket. The DMV gave me the court’s number and when I called them, they said they no longer have the ticket and it was turned over to a credit agency.

My question is whether or not this type of thing comes off my record as normal bad credit would in 7 years or so? I’m a college student now and cannot afford to pay the 700+ dollars for the ticket and if it does clear that date would be coming up soon. I know this is probably hopeful wishing but its worth a shot. Any information/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. Rock Firestorm says:

Your credit is destroyed, you literally can’t get an apartment with a collection agency on there. It’s on there for ten years. Take care of it ASAP

PS – the other person Emma has no clue what she’s talking about – a collection agency request certainly does show up on your credit and obliterates it. Your credit is destroyed. No one will give you any kind of credit whatsoever because they figure if a collection agency was hired to get you, you’ll screw them over too. Remember, most people here are simply guessing.

  2. Emma says:

It was turned over to a collections agency, thats what they mean… No it won’t come up… your license should be suspended shortly, if not already and they’ll probably have a writ issued for you but they can’t hold you for it.

Money you owe the state doesn’t just disappear… you’re thinking CREDIT agency… I am almost guarantee they mean COLLECTION agency so you still owe the money.
