  1. Valley R says:

    It means that:

    1. You will pay a fine
    2. It will be on your criminal record
    3. I will pay higher prices for being a good honest citizen
    4. You will have difficulties getting a job when they do a background check
    5. You will have to do community service
    6. You should seek counseling

I sure hope you learned a lesson from this. Crime does NOT pay.

  2. vantz says:

It all depends on the amount that the merchandise taken was worth. If it surpasses a certain amount (I don’t know what this amount is in your state) then it could be logged in as a felony and this would be serious. Since you are only 14 years old you may get away with a stern warning from the judge and nothing added to your arrest record.
Do it again and you are toast.

  3. dick_imax says:

It will play a factor in a college choosing to accept you or not. But how you live your life from now on will play a big factor as well. Better start studying. A "c" student with a criminal record probably won;t be accepted to a university. It’s very competitive out there. There aren’t to many do overs in life, kid. Get it together.

  4. :D says:

You’ll have to payback for what you stole by paying a fine and doing community service. It will also probably be written up on your records..but I’m not for sure.

Btw, you live in the town where PostSecrets started!!

  5. Phoenix says:

That would depend on your state laws. Absolutely! you have a criminal record because that was stealing. You should have thought it hard then before commiting into this non-sense act that may cause you dearly in the near future.

  6. NEPAguy says:

When i was 15 i got caught swapping price tags from one item to another, this was before barcodes were scanned. I got away with it. Since your a juvenile it wont affect your future.. If you were 18 it would hurt for employment but not college.. I would just learn from this lesson cause its not worth the trouble you get into for theft…

  7. killarney kid says:

before i can answer that,i need to know if any formal charges have been laid, and have you been in court to answer the charges, because before you have a committal hearing your solicitor can plea bargain due to the fact of this being your first offense, also being a minor and having shown remorse.you could get off with a warning only and no charge laid.

  8. Joe D says:

You will probably get a fine and have to do community service. You will also have a juvenile record, which gets sealed when you turn 18. The store might also get an injunction against you which means if you ever go back in that store before you turn 18 (or the injunction expires), you could be arrested for trespassing.

  9. Dhruv A says:

14?, well its on ur juvinile, record….so its nothing…its like getting suspended, for a day for fighting in school…..wont matter

anyways they let u go on the first one…..

u WILL be banned from getting into that store again…and be flagged for 6 months

  10. Stevie says:

it will go on your record until you are 18, after that you are given a ‘second chance’ …
you will have a fine to pay…probably a couple hundred dollars and some community service.

take this as a lesson… crime isnt worth it.

this will not hurt your chances of going to college or working, as long as this is your first and LAST offense.

  11. TURANDOT All'alba vincerĂ²! says:

Oh you have a freebie when you are a minor. Your record only stays in Juvenile matters, and your issues do not leave that court. By law, nothing leaves Juvenile Matters

But once you hit 16 and you keep misbehaving, you go to adult court, where you get no breaks.

This will not affect your chances of getting a good job in the future or going to college, if you really let this be the last time. That is how you know something is not good for you: When it worries you and makes you feel bad about doing it.

For now, just learn from your mistakes and keep your chin up. Don’t do it again. That is how we all grow up.
