Well…Im asking this because im wondering if there is a way i dont have to pay a traffic ticket off…I got into an accident about a year ago and the only ticket they gave me was for no insurance on my car.which i had insurance on untill my dad took me off his when i moved out.he never told me he took me off,he just took me off and i was still driving around when this happened.I am a 17 year old female with a 2 year old baby and single to go with it.i really dont have 900 dollars to hand over for a ticket i dont feel is my fault. My dad has been in prison for 15 years of my life and my mother ran out on me so ive been taking care of myself for a long time now…i feel that if there is no possible way to get out of this ticket that my father should owe me atleast that.i have to worry about how im going to pay for college classes and diapers.i heard that once you turn 18 you cant be held responsible for what u did as a minor, that your record isnt really wiped clean but its.overlooked?

You were still a minor under the care of your parents. However, if the car was in your name it was your responsibility to maintain insurance at any cost.

Plead your case with the judge and see where you can take this.

  2. Ash says:

Girl, you have a lot going on, but keep it up, you sound like you’re headed in the right direction. I work for an attorney and regardless of what others tell you, a judge has a heart too. Talk to the judge, if you can. Tell him what’s going on, and just tell him about your situation. As far as the ticket goes, I’m afraid that that is your responsibility unless the car was not in your name. What you are refering to is the ‘youthful offender plea’ and this gets you out of criminal charges when you are under the age of 19, or 18 is some states. That would not apply here. Good luck.

  3. Megan says:

Here’s the deal. If you dont pay the ticket it will not be forgotten about. In some counties you can do community service or a program called SWAP, that will make you work off the ticket. You can also set up a payment plan and pay $25.00 a month until it is paid off. If you dont feel like doing that, each county has a traffic commissioner, and you can set up a court date with him, explain your situation, and see if he will lessen the fee or let you off. When you turn 18 your record will be sealed, but if you still have an unresolved case you still have to deal with it, then when it becomes resolved it too will be sealed. Hope this helps.

  4. awake says:

I don’t think this applies to traffic court or else everyone would ignore tickets as a minor to the point that police wouldn’t even bother giving them out. This applies to criminal court under the premise to give that person a " fair chance in life". They will probably tell you something like " ignorance is no excuse for the law". Hope for a female judge, and plead your case. Failure to answer the charge will result in a warrant for you arrest. You gotta figure, if a minor could get away with this, every trial judge would have used this a thousand time over by now, and it would be common knowledge.
