i have four felonies on my record. all property offenses. i am 25 years old.


  1. yes it will i am sorry to tell you. But depending on the work, it may not. If you are going to be a cop, it might hurt you a bit. If you are going into some sort of manual labor. it might not hurt you that much. Since its property offenses, i would say it will not hurt you that much but it will affect you a little.

  2. Not at all. You should look into making your career something your good at. Obviously it’s being arrested and not learning your lesson.

  3. Sorry to tell you, yes. And especially so if you fail to list your felonies on the employment application. I worked in HR for four years and we even hired some felons before but we did NOT hire anyone that did not list it or lied about it. Besides, most employers do history checks nowadays anyway.

  4. I am afraid it will… your best shot is to find a job with a small company and kick butt at it. Stay there for a few years and with their recommendation you should have a better shot of employment with the next place.

    But to be honest those felonies will probably haunt you in one way or another for the rest of your life (unless you are able after a few years to get the court to expunge them).

  5. There are many employers that do very little background checks. You will most likely need to direct your job hunting to these companies. If a company does checks then most likely you will be denied. You should be fine although I suggest stopping the criminal offenses.

  6. what i have found is that it depends on the company. if u r triin for a corporation job they r governed by rules, but smaller businesses have more room to manuever when it comes to stuff like that. and bein honest definitely helps ur chances with obtaining a job.

  8. I, as a convicted felon myself, have found the biggest thing is telling the truth about your past, and your ability to show that it is just that. Your PAST. If you had a drug problem, be able to show a year’s worth of clean urinalisis tests through your parole officer. He/she will gladly produce the results for you upon request. Character letters from people who knew you before and now, stapled to your application help. They really do. Many employers only want to know you’re going to work hard, and be on time every day, on time. And make THEM money. They want to know what kind of person you ARE, and not how you WERE. Honesty IS the best policy. When I first got out of prison, no one wanted to talk to me. I had 12 years in the Marine Corps, and a degree in engineering, yet I was flipping burgers at McDonald’s for almost a year, before I went to an interview where I now work. I was discouraged because the achievements I made in life didn’t seem to matter, but I filled out the ap. thinking this is a good job. I’m sick of being shown the door, but this job is good enough to suffer the embarrassment once more. Maybe I’ll get lucky. HONESTY got me the job. The man told me if I could pass a drug screen, he’d give me a second chance. I now make 65k a year on an assembly line for a major auto manufacturer and am in the UAW. Persistance, and taking pride in yourself, and the changes you made in your life, and honesty about your past, are all very important. You WILL find a LOT of people who want nothing to do with you. Guess what. You want nothing to do with them either. Keep your head up, and keep plugging. You got no choice. And remember. Don’t sweat the small things. And they are ALL SMALL THINGS.

  9. A criminal record will limit the amount of employers willing to offer employment. Many employers do background checks or "screening" of candidates before hiring. Most common are Social Security, Driver’s License, basic drug screen and Criminal Checks. If the results of these test are not favorable, the employer is within their right to refuse employment.

    As the cost of labor increases, employers like to avoid turnover. Many employers are being advised that it’s much less expensive to spend the money on the front-end (i.e. conducting numerous background checks) than it is to fire a bad apple and replace them. The HR culture is evolving in a manner that is making it more difficult to hire candidates with a tainted past.

    With that said, like the gentlemen before me said, Honesty is the best policy. If it is learned that you lied during the application process the employer can fire you immediately. You would be hard pressed to convince people that your mistakes are past when your lies are current.

  10. 4 FELONIES….obviously you need a different career….you don’t make a very good thief. Yes I would say you will have a hard time getting a job. Get a couple more Felonies and you’ll be working for nothing. Repeat offenders usually get sent off… good luck.
